Проанализируйте лог «иксов», в самом его начале это видно. Будет что-то вроде /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d

Спасибо, работает.
Откуда в таком случае берутся настройки? На 17-й Федоре из коробки файла /etc/X11/xorg.conf нет вообще.

Ваш конфигурационный файл содержит ошибки. В настоящее время использование конфигурационного файла для «иксов» не является обязательным, попробуйте удалить его или переместить куда-нибудь.
