так..вот еще кое-что)
предыстория: на RHEL6 не настроились норм VMware tools (юзаю старую версию vmware 6, там при конф-ии писалось, что не найден файл библиотеки GCC(я делал поиск, но как-то так и понял,какой путь туда вписать)), поэтому я перешёл на 8 версию вмваре, там сразу при установке тулсы поставились 
НО почему-то ОС стала ставиться в авто-режиме..
когда всё поставилось, мне надо было поставить LAMP, тут как обычно - yum install mysql-server и т.д., но
[root@localhost ~]# yum install mysql-server

No package mysql-server available.
Error: Nothing to do
я удивился, смотрю в файлы:
/etc/yum.repos.d/redhat.repo - здесь пусто,
/etc/yum.repos.d/rhel-source.repo - здесь

Я заменил enabled=0 на "1", сделал снова yum install, вышло
[root@localhost ~]# yum install mysql-server
