OpenSUSE 12.3, видеокарта Nvidia MX440 8AGP, вроде бы работает драйвер nouveau (как узнать точно какой драйвер загружен?).
Не загружается нужное разрешение монитора. Загружается 1024х768, а нужно 1920х1200. Выставляю в Параметры системы-> Экран нужное разрешение, но после перезагрузки оно сбрасывается.

А видео карта точно держит такое разрешение? Да и зачем ее так мучать, производительность и так желает лучшего...

Попробуйте настроить монитор этой утилитой: SAX3

# zypper in sax3

можно попробовать изменить разрешение при помощи xrandr.
Cначала получаем modeline:

cvt 1920 1200

В моем случае вывод команды был таким:

# 1920x1200 59.88 Hz (CVT 2.30MA) hsync: 74.56 kHz; pclk: 193.25 MHz
Modeline "1920x1200_60.00"  193.25  1920 2056 2256 2592  1200 1203 1209 1245 -hsync +vsync

Строчку "Modeline ..." подсовываем xrandr:

xrandr --newmode "1920x1200_60.00"  193.25  1920 2056 2256 2592  1200 1203 1209 1245 -hsync +vsync

После этого добавляем режим к видеовыходу (текущий выход можно посмотреть, набрав в консоли просто xrandr) и активируем разрешение для монитора:

xrandr --addmode VGA1 "1920x1200_60.00"
xrandr --output VGA1 --mode "1920x1200_60.00"

Чтобы это все заработало после перезагрузки, следует добавить 3 последних указанных команды в файл ~/.bashrc.

Я тут тоже купил Цифровой телевизор-монитор.
1920x1080 правда разрешение....
поэкспериментировал и плюнул... выставил самое большое которое подходит.
Поддерживаемые режимы указаны в Grub-2 нужного в списке нет.
Результаты вывода framebufer совпадают с предлагаемыми в Grub-2

Хотя сама система увидела, распознала монитор  и установила нужное разрешение.
Везде кроме загрузчика.

Nomad_id, видеокарта поддерживает такое разрешение, монитор Dell U2412M. С проприетарным драйвером NVidia вполне себе работало.
verg, SAX3 не помогла
вот что выдает xrandr:
